Work stuff

To "improve our morale" they started organizing little get togethers at work for people in our organization. Today was our location's turn. We only have about 28 people here, unlike some other locations with 100 or so people, so we all actually know each other by name and stuff. Given that, we were spared all the idiotic exercises of getting to know your colleagues (thank god for little mercies, because I've heard what they make some poor souls do, shudder). Anyhow, for the benefit of some out-of-state directors that attended (there were 5 directors and 1 VP for the 10 of us who showed up!) we did introduce ourselves. My intro "Hi, my name is _ , I work for _ , I do ... hmm, whatever they tell me to do" was the absolute truth even though those present took it as a joke. We got a piece of cake out of the arrangement (had strawberries in it, yak) in celebration of everybody who had a bday or a service anniversary this quarter. One of the guys had his 27-year anniversary with the company, to which I tactfully noted that he's been here for as long as I've been alive, prompting an apologetic comment from one of the women "Rimma just has this brutal honesty..." :-) And to prove how generous our company is, everybody celebrating got a gift card for Starbucks for $5. That's going to cover like, I don't know, half a cup of coffee? Something to look forward to for second quarter next year (my bday and anniversary) if they keep on doing these.
