The weirdest thing that happened to me in Israel so far was not the rain while swimming in the Dead Sea or rain while waiting for the start of games in Eilat but walking into our hotel room in Jerusalem and finding a welcome note signed by somebody with my last name. Not that I was experiencing any shortage of relatives but it was an interesting experience.

That's what happens to you when you go to Israel. You meet more people with your last name than you thought existed. For me especially shocking were then-president of Israel and my best childhood friend's wife :)

There are very few people in the world with my last name. All of them are relatives that can be traced to no farther than a common great-grandparent. I have never met or heard of merely a namesake.

Кацав означает "мясник" на иврите, так что фамилия весьма распространенная. При этом она может быть переводом с любого языка, так что о родственниках говорить не приходится.
