if i remember it correctly, she had around $4000 and he had around $14000 before the final question , he did not have to loss even if she would bet max and get it right and he would get it wrong
so we have two explanations
1)he became too sure of himself or 2)he just wanted out
i did not see the game, i so a report about it on the news tonight around two hours ago... i did not pay much attention, but right now i remember it as $4000... i would check on the net, but i feel too lazy for it
But Zerg was within striking range, with $10,000 to Jennings' $14,400, at that point. (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/11/30/tv.jennings.ap/index.html)
According to urbanDictionary.com Zerg "Originates from Blizzard's game Starcraft where zerg were one of 3 playable races, ... zerg were characterized by using large numbers of weak units to swarm the enemy". It is now used to mean "enemies that overwhelm you in vastly greater numbers, but not necessarily greater strength or intelligence." :)
