Such a nice day we are having today in NY. My favorite, rain with gusty winds, resulting basically in a horizontal rain. On the up side, my shoes finally got a thorough cleaning. In and out. Socks, too, although in this case I really thought they were quite clean enough already. Got to the train station in a somewhat dry state, minus the feet, but after twenty minutes of waiting for the train the only dry portion remaining was the inner side of the umbrella. And, frankly, even that was sporting some moisture. But the best part was sitting down on the train. Oh, how does one describe the feeling of icy cold cloth of soaked jeans molding itself to one's skin? Words fail me. And then there is my hair. Remember that famous picture of Albert Einstein? Yeh... Except that he was a genius and I am just having a bad hair day. Well, as usual, there is something to look forward to: going home, probably in this same rain. Oh, joy.

I'll take your commute over mine any day. Rain in Jersey City is not the same as in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Neither is wind. As soon as I stepped out of the PATH station I felt like Marry Poppins. If my umbrella was only a bit bigger I could've flown away. Instead, it inverted itself immediatly and started dragging me around in random directions. Our security guard (who was watching my "dance in the rain") was very surprised that my umbrella didn't break, he pointed to a garbage can next to our building and said -- this is an umbrella graveyard.

Why do you think my umbrella was wet from the inside? :)

I know what you mean about the Jersey City wind. There was always a really strong one around 140 West building. Apparently, before other buildings started going up around it and thus cutting off the wind, they would have to tie cables along the sidewalk for people to hold on to when they walked. Otherwise the wind would just blow you off your feet. And they had men standing there to help women get around.
