Sprint plans to deploy a new WiMax network named Xohm (I'd like to know how much they paid somebody to come up with that name!) They are promising speeds of 2Mbps all the way up to 10Mbps, no mention of upstream or downstream. Meanwhile FCC approved an HSUPA (You gotta love this industry's infatuation with bizzare acronyms. My personal favourite is TSB, which stands for Tall Shiny Building. I kid you not.) data card that can potentially upgrade AT&T's 3G network to 7.2 Mbps down and over 2 Mbps up. Verizon, on the other hand, is being asked by cable to explain what exactly do they mean by True QAM. People in the office, many of whom can boast PhDs in EE and Physics, are also curious.
