Finished reading Hugh Laurie's "The Gun Seller". Laurie is actually a British actor and this was his first published attempt at writing. I would call it a very successful attempt. Talented chap, not only plays a clever Brit on TV but manages to be one in real life too.

The novel is a blend of thriller and spy mystery. Not my usual fare, so me liking it means that it's got to be good ;) Well, not really, of course. I remember establishing at some point that I have a pretty bad taste in literature. Still, I recommend it. The book has an idea in there somewhere, which can be expressed as "Selling guns is really bad. Don't do it." But don't hold it against it, Laurie puts it much better than I did, with lots of action and little clever quips sprinkled on top. It's not big on character development, but those of you who are into that kind of thing (yeah, I am talking to you) go read Tolstoy or something.

"Ronnie took us back to her flat off the King's Road, and we drove past it a dozen times in each direction. We weren't checking for surveillance, just looking for a place to park. This was the time of day when Londoners who own cars, and that's most of them, pay heavily for their indulgence - time stands still, or goes backwards, or does some fucking thing that doesn't correspond with the ordinary rules of the universe - and all those TV commercials showing sexy sportsters being flung about deserted country roads start to irritate you a little. They don't irritate me, of course, because I ride a bike. Two wheels good, four wheels bad."
