Overseen in NY

riontelSpring is here, tourist season in NY is open. Three groups of people around me on the train today had their noses in a subway map, two couples were utilizing the paper version and one group was going high tech with an iPhone.
A girl next to me was writing out her life plan (I was shamelessly reading over her shoulder). The plan opened with "if I don't get into the grad school I will..." and was followed by a list of somewhat ambitious goals: getting a second well paying job, new apartment, writing two feature length scripts, shooting a full feature or a couple of shorts... I was impressed but left with one question, why would anybody have to write down something like that, is there really a chance of forgetting?
Passed by a group of arguing construction workers and overheard this snippet: "Hate crime is if I beat the shit out of you right now!"
It came as a shock to me that Thursday is such a hot party night in the city, nothing like what I am used to on my usual Thursday evening. I need to get out more, to somewhere where they don't make you toss your bottled water before subjecting you to a full-body scan.
