Dec. 2nd, 2005 10:38 amRecently one of our labs bought a new $50,000 Cisco router. It arrived on November 17th and ... disappeared. Paperwork showed that it arrived and was signed for but no trace of the item could be located. And it's not really something small that can fall into a crack behind a desk or something. After combing through every likely spot our security finally reviewed a video recording from the dock area, tracing the passage of the router from arrival to disappearance. Here is what they saw: a couple of guys from Nortel (our vendors, who are required to take care of their own trash to avoid clogging the docking area) take the router, which is sitting on a skid in a box clearly marked as Cisco, shrink wrap it (sic!) and put it out with the trash. Since it got caught on camera, Nortel is replacing the item. I can just imagine Nortel going to Cisco, their competitors, to buy a router. Those guys will laugh themselves silly!
