Doorbell. I open the door.

Neighbor: Is your smoke detector beeping?
Me: No.
Neighbor: I hear the alarm, and I can smell something cooking.
Me: That's definitely not me.

I've found out a few days ago that a recessed wall heater turned on the first time this Fall can trigger a smoke detector even after some prophylactic dusting. And there was no visible smoke, just some dusty smell.

I consent that there might be a glimmer of a possibility that some dusty smell might come out of my apartment. If my walls start falling down, for instance. But there is absolutely no chance for a cooking smell to originate in my apartment.

don't you heat things up? nuke 'em? that may to an untrained nose smell like cooking :)

I do warm things up, but never enough for the smell to carry out into the hallways.

А твой Н. (у него имя состоит только из инициала? :-) ) тоже никогда не пытается поразить тебя своими кулинарными способностями?
