Music appreciation

I just discovered an astonishing thing about myself. [livejournal.com profile] avva posted a video of REM's "Losing my religion" which somebody doctored to play in major scale. I love that song so I listened to the video. Then I read people's comments how it sounds too upbeat. Then I listened to the original version. Then I first read the description of the differences between major and minor scales (didn't understand a word, naturally) and, second, found a couple of videos on YouTube where people illustrate the difference on various instruments. Then I gave up because I can't hear any difference whatsoever. I mean, we already established with Lena that I can't tell the difference between adjacent notes but up until this moment I didn't realize that was such a crucial thing. I think I know how color blind people feel.
