The only way to fix a PC (partially) would be to install HackOS on it. Just a temporary solution til you put down enough $$$ for your new shiny MacBookPro.
It was a hw problem, nothing to do with Microsoft for a wonder. I am not a Mac person. I don't like their proprietary approach to hardware and software design. I would not buy a machine that loses its warranty just because I had the temerity to upgrade its memory without Apple's support center involvement. I was actually looking at iMac but its ugly shiny screen completely turned me off. If I wanted a MacBookPro (or any other Mac laptop) I could buy it on my work budget. I usually buy them if somebody asks for one in my group, even though I don't approve.
There's nothing proprietary in their hardware approach anymore. Nor will you loose your warranty if you perform a memory or hard drive upgrade. I also own 24" iMac and extremely happy about its screen.
На виртуальной ты и настоящего леопарда можешь поставить. А если native - приноси ко мне, вместе поставим, там все-таки надо немного с бубном потанцевать.
I specifically asked the guy at the store about upgrading RAM on iMac and his response was: you can upgrade it yourself but opening the slot trips a sensor and that voids the warranty. Glossy screens are a matter of taste I guess.

...that douses you with tear gas, calls Apple Support Center и по твоему адресу выезжает группа захвата! :)
