FCC is looking for 10,000 volunteers to collect statistics on the current status of actual broadband speeds across ISPs. Each volunteer will receive a "white box" device from SamKnows, the firm FCC hired to conduct the investigation, which they will connect in line with their broadband router and which will collect a bunch of different measurements.

If you are interested, you can apply at https://www.testmyisp.com/index.php.

Why are they bothering with this? It turns out most Americans don't know what their broadband speed is supposed to be (what they are paying their ISP for) and what they are actually getting, while at the same time feeling completely satisfied with their current broadband service. So FCC wants to know what it is exactly that most Americans feel satisfied with.

I, naturally, don't qualify to participate.
